FSS First Snow: IVS Reindeer race

Skitter placed 7th!!!!!

It was cold, like really cold, as Octayvia bundled up to get ready for Skitter's first competition. She could easily tell how eager the filly was, after all the cold, and snow for that matter where her element.

After several cups of hot cocoa the race was begging, grumbling something about riding English she ftightened the girth, specialized to hold down Skitter's wings, which were really not of much use at the moment.

This was her first... official competition and Octayvia struggled to calm herself enough to even get in the saddle. Before doing so she rubbed Skitter's nose smiling encouragingly. "You ready?" she asked quietly. In response Skitter gave her the most sarcastic look a horse can before tossing her head and whinnying. "Alright then, lets go get 'em." With that she jumped into the saddle and they made their way to the starting line.

The race began and they took off! Skitter did stunningly well, not falling behind the lead few, threatening to take the lead several times. They came to a point where there was an icy gap the only way around it was a tight path off to the side through the woods. Octayvia yanked at the reins, but no matter what she did, Skitter refused to turn.

With no other option she held tight to the reins and urged Skitter forward, thinking she was going to jump it fingers crossed she would make it, but what Skitter did was nothing of the sort. As they reached the icy death trap she pulled a slide stop like motion and proceeded to skate over the slippery surface. It took her a few tries but skitter managed to maneuver herself by kicking off with her hind legs and propelling herself forward as a result.

To Octayvia's amazement the made it safely across and met up with the lead horse. Recovering quickly Skitter raced on, nose to nose with the leading horses as the race went on...

So i give you two days work... I realistically shaded my horse and my person.. i love the outcome! LOOK EVERYONE! I GOT A CONTEST ENTRY IN ON TIME!!!! o.o And look! Its Skitter all grown up! I'm working on updating all my refs so the only one i have now is her as a foal... but this is her as an adult!
